Monomyth

This video based installation is a constructed space projecting four videos that are in conceptual relation to the Cartesian Graph. Each video represents a direction in tension with the axis of a XY graph from up, down, left, and right. This graph is the result of trying to define everything in coordination, everything as the same. Stripping down Joseph Campbell’s, A Hero’s Journey, and the idea of the “monomyth,” the foundations of existence can be based on the dualities between good and bad, past and future. Therefore, the viewer becomes the origin of these foundations by representing the neutral and present while directly impeding on the process of tension between directions. I defined these foundations through images of my own vernacular, memory, and archive.

Exhibited at the University of Nevada, Reno Galleries, February 6 – 16, 2017.
